MEET THE CANDIDATES!

On Monday, May 19, 2014, Iowa City Community Theatre will hold its annual membership meeting at 7:00 pm at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, Building A. One of the purposes of the meeting will be to elect a new Board of Directors for the 2014-2015 season. Listed below are short bios from the candidates to fill all of the officer positions as well as 5 At-Large members. All current members of ICCT are eligible to vote in this election.

Kehry Anson Lane graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Theatre Arts. He has been active with in the Iowa City/Coralville theatre community for over a decade. Kehry has appeared on stage for City Circle Acting Company of Coralville (CCACC), Dreamwell Theatre, Fourth Room Theatre, Iowa City Community Theatre, Riverside Theatre, Theatre Cedar Rapids, and the University of Iowa Theatre Department. He has also directed shows for CCACC, ICCT and Fourth Room Theatre. Kehry has previously served on the ICCT Board of Directors (2009-2012). He served as President of ICCT during the 55th season (2010-2011). He is the Production Director and a founding member of Fourth Room Theatre. During the day he works as an Application Packager for UnityPoint Health.  Kehry believes deeply in the mission of community theatre and its ability not only to entertain, but to enrich lives. He is honored to be a nominee for President of ICCT. (President)

Connie Stannard grew up in Rock Island, Illinois, and attended high school so she could go to play practice.  She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, and majored in Theatre Arts and elementary education.  Connie got her law degree at the University of Iowa College of Law after teaching special needs children for 7 years, primarily in Rock Island.  After graduating from law school and settling into Iowa City life, she was longing to get back involved with the theatre.  She discovered ICCT and auditioned for her first show in 1991, “Witness for the Prosecution”, and has been hooked ever since.  It is the ideal blend of community involvement and personal fulfillment, where anyone can contribute something of value.  Connie has been in over a dozen shows through the years, and has served on the board as both a member-at-large and as President. She has been an attorney with Johnston, Stannard, Klesner, Burbidge & Fitzgerald, PLC, since January of 2001, and practices primarily in the area of family law. (President)

Rachel Korach Howell has studied abroad at the British American Drama Academy in London and holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Iowa. She has directed and acted locally with Iowa City Community Theatre, Dreamwell Theatre, City Circle Acting Company, Riverside Theatre, Theatre Cedar Rapids, the University of Iowa Theatre Department, and is also the Education Director and a founding member of Fourth Room Theatre.  Rachel began as a member at large of ICCT, and though she may have left the board, her heart and presence never left this important institution.  She’s worked on numerous shows on stage and off, and has been the Playbill Coordinator for several seasons.  Rachel is excited to return to the board as the prospective Vice President of Iowa City Community Theatre for it’s 59th season.  (Vice-President)

Beth Hill works part-time as an Adjunct Mathematics Instructor teaching remedial math at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. She’s also the lead volunteer for the Paws & More Animal Shelter that houses cats at the Coralville Petco. Beth joined the Board of Directors for ICCT this past year and served on the Play and Director Selection Committee and the Publicity Committee. Beth’s husband, Ed, works in Information Technology Services at the University of Iowa. They have 2 daughters, Megan (a freshman at West High School) and Emily (a 6th grader at Coralville Central). Although Beth likes to stay behind the scenes, her daughters like to perform onstage whenever possible. If elected Secretary, Beth is hoping to increase the efficiency of ICCT and its outreach to members and the community. She’s very excited for next year’s season! (Secretary)

Dave Roe has served on the Board of Directors for 6 years, including the last 5 years as Treasurer. He has also served on the Publicity committee, Play and Director Selection committee, and the Development committee. Dave has been a Board liaison to at least one show per season. He is learning Quick Books accounting software so that he can provide the Board with pretty financial reports after years of only using an Excel spreadsheet. (Treasurer)

Brett Borden is a 2009 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with an emphasis in Speech/Theater Education.  He’s lived in Iowa City for 4 years but only recently discovered the ICCT family and is so glad he did!  His other directing credits include Fool for Love by Sam Shepard and Peter Cottontail performed last year by the local Footliters students.  He currently works at the Iowa Children’s Museum as an Educator and loves every minute of it.  In his spare time he does theater, theater and more theater! (2 Year At-Large)

Brenda Christner has been involved in theater all her life and has a real joy in making sure that ICCT produces quality shows. She has been on the ICCT board for several years and would like to continue to help ICCT thrive in our community. (2 Year At-Large)

Jaret Morlan “grew up” in Community Theater, attending rehearsals as early as the age of two with his Mother, President and Director for Carroll Community Theater. Since those early days, Jaret has been privileged to work as a Director, Actor and Board Member locally and for theaters across Iowa for over 25 years. He attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, holds a BA in Theater from the University of Iowa and was co-founder of I-You Theater Company (Iowa City, IA). His favorite acting roles are Lennie in Of Mice and Men (ICCT), Juror #4 in 12 Angry Men (ICCT), Stepfather in Sinderella (UI), Prince Dauntless in Once Upon a Mattress (ACTors), and Scooter Thomas in Scooter Thomas Makes It to the Top of the World (I-You). His previous directing credits include Lonely Planet (UI/I-You), Tale of the Allergist’s Wife (City Circle), Noises Off (CC Stoplight) and Desert Pepper (UI). A lover of Iowa City, Jaret makes his home here with his wife Leah and their two boys, Toby and Milo. Jaret’s philosophy of theater is that it’s not simply a group of actors entertaining an audience, but a shared experience of the two parties; both give, both take, both sacrifice, and both are rewarded.  “Theater is a verb before it is a noun, an act before it is a place.” – Martha Graham  (2-Year At-Large)

Jill VanDorpe. Belonging to ICCT has been a real “family” experience for Jill, who has met many friends onstage, backstage, and in the audience.  She has served on the ICCT Board as a member-at-large, President, current Past President, and current Chair of the Publicity Committee, as well as contributing to the Play Selection Committee and the Development Committee.  She has represented ICCT in many ways:  TV interviews, radio interviews, Kiwanis Club presentation, outreach to several senior residences, Cultural Corridor activities, singing with the ICCT Sisters of Song, giving curtain speeches, and welcoming theatergoers in the lobby every chance she gets.  Jill is willing to work hard toward making ICCT not just survive — but thrive — in bringing quality, affordable, family theater to our community. (2 Year At-Large)

Carl Brown. Although Carl has appeared on Boards of Directors before, this marks his debut with ICCT. Prior experiences include 12 years working in Finance (currently with Integrated DNA Technologies), 7 years teaching Spanish, and 25 (?!) cumulative years parenting. After treading the ICCT boards in Annie, The Royal Family, Oklahoma!, Cabaret, Three Beans …, and Of Mice and Men, he couldn’t be more excited to now … tread the Board. Carl thanks the cast and crew of the Board for this opportunity to contribute to the continued success of ICCT, and looks forward to the exciting happenings of the coming year. (1 Year At-Large)

Bruce Kout is a Financial Advisor with The Principal Financial Group.  Bruce also serves as a Board Member of the Iowa City Noon Rotary Club and will be the Club’s President in 2014-15. Bruce and his wife Andrea live in Iowa City and have two daughters, Avery (age 15) and Sidney (age 13). (Development At-Large)

Pete Weyer has been on the ICCT Board of Directors since 2012. He is a member of the Development Committee and has been involved in pursuing grant opportunities for ICCT; he chairs the Planning Committee for the Shelter Our Community fundraisers, in which ICCT partners with Shelter House.  Pete has lived in Iowa City since 1978 with his wife Lynn and three kids, Matt and Erin (now both living in Denver), and Maggie.  He is a UI grad (PhD in preventive medicine and environmental health) and is employed at the UI as an environmental health researcher. A total neophyte to community theater when he joined ICCT, Pete has learned a lot over the past two years and looks forward to continuing work with the ICCT Board. (Development At-Large)
